    1987

    Ingenio San Carlos was established by Carlos. S Lynch in his estate located where Chimbo and Chancán rivers converge. The estate started its expansion north of Chimbo river in 1912.

    Sociedad Agrícola e Industrial S.A. is founded in Guayaquil city, its main objective is to manage Ingenio San Carlos’ activities and business. Appropriate leadership, and strict values on ethics, work and faithful compliance of legal regulations, has been its pillars in daily activities since its foundation.

    1950

    Between 1950-9, San Carlos Hospital, the first Market, modern housing in San Vicente neighborhood and four other neighborhoods for workers were built, seeking to increase the industry’s workforce demand. The first electric power plant was installed, and San Carlos highway was also built.

    Hawaiian Agronomics was hired as a consultant in soil treatment, planting, sowing and irrigation, harvesting and transportation of sugar cane in the factory.

    The company changes its business nature to anonymous society, Sociedad Agrícola e Industrial San Carlos S.A.

    Mariano González has been president of the board since 1980; Xavier E. Marcos, B.A., has been general manager since 1971 to present day.

    1977

    A new industrial expansion started in the factory to increase its milling capacity, with help from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and other private international banks.

    Throughout 4 harvests, the national record was broken 3 times, setting the new record of 3’076.160 of 50 kilo (110 pound) bags along a huge harvested agricultural area (23,284.21 hectares)

    Through a loan granted by the Commercial and Agricultural Bank, new machinery was bought and thus, industrial growth began.

    The Commercial and Agricultural Bank takes over Ingenio San Carlos and its management. With the bank crisis of 1937 in Ecuador, this bank closed down permanently.

    1982-83

    With El Niño phenomenon, there was a decrease in production that affected the whole industry severely. One decade later the harvested area had grown to over 18.000 hectares and reaching a new production record, which was broken again in 1996 with 2’523.788 50 kilo (110 pound) bags.

    Cogeneration Projects gets its environmental license.
